Virtual Research Group Seminars Using Access Grid

Images of a Virtual Research Group seminar using Access Grid, taken from the Hull Access Grid Node. They show how effective the Access Grid format can be as a platform for regular research seminars involving dispersed participants. Involved in this particular seminar were scholars from Hull (foreground) and (small images, clockwise) Essex, Keele, Oxford, Sheffield, Royal Holloway and Newcastle, as well as (large images left to right) Leeds and UEA.  The quality of the projection and the responsiveness of the image-movement means that Access Grid provides an workable and effective communication environment.

The image below shows close ups of participants in an Access Grid Research Seminar, viewed from Hull.  Three of the participants shown here (top centre and left, bottom centre) are using desktop Access Grid Nodes (or PIGs).  These can be used from any reasonably performant, networked PC, making participation in remote research seminars, something which can be carried out from one's office and fitted more easily into academic schedules.

The photograph below shows the large projection images and the immediacy of communication which can be achieved using Access Grid.
